FUN in the SUN

Sorry I haven't posted anything this week until now... the 9 to 5 day is straight up killing me.

Nothing exciting really happened this week until today. Oh wait I forgot about MJ. Well you know what I mean. What was so special about today you ask?! Well today it got into the 80s in Seattle which hasn't happened yet since I have been here. So we took advantage of the nice weather and went to Alcay Beach which wasn't really a beach in the east coast sense. I mean the beach had more pebbles than sand and the water was frigid... so we laid out on the grass. :) I also noticed that the sun here is much weaker than back home... I laid out today for 5+ hours in only spf 4 sunscreen and I didn't get burnt. Weird. After we left the beach we went to a mexican place called Cactus and it was vurrrrry good. The pics I took today are posted above.

WELL I finished the mural and this is what it looks like...

In other news, last week we all went to a Seattle Sounders soccer game which was really cool. Supposedly this guy who was dubbed the Sexiest Man in Sweden is a midfielder on the team. The only problem was that we were sitting up pretty high and we couldn't get a good look at how sexy he really was.

On Monday night, we went to a dinner party at the home of a Duke Alum. As Chelsea & I began walking to address we realized that we were entering an entire new world. The neighborhood was full of ridiculous homes that were either on the water or were on hills that had insane views of the water. So we get to the house and it was huge like we had imagined and it of course, had a gorgeous view. We walked into the foyer and there on the wall was an original Andy Warhol Print. REALLY?!?!?! YEP. The house was full of amazing art pieces and the family had two little girls who were well versed in french and spanish. It was crazy. This family was also supposedly close friends with the Obamas as well as many other prominent people. The most memorable part of the night though were these monstrous brownies that we had for dessert. I think they were like designer brownies... yup, I just said designer brownies. They were delicious.

I also learned something neat this week. I just realized that the space needle is visible from my room. It took me 2 weeks to figure that out. It's the skinny lookin thing in the middle of the picture below... hehehe.

ok so that's all for now. I hope everyone has an awesome July 4th!

(801): You dropped me off at the wrong girl's house.

Painting = love.

For the past two days I have been planning and painting a mural in the Seattle Works Office where I work. I just thought I would post the pictures that documents my progress. I am not quite done yet but I should be done with it by Monday :) so I will post a picture of the final result then...

Stage 1: I created a grid so that I could map out what I would draw where and so that I could create accurate proportions. It's hard to see it because I drew it in pencil, but it's slightly visible toward the floor.

Stage 2: Lime Green/Yellow Dots.

Stage 3: Add Gray Dots.

Stage 4: Add Dark Brown Dots.

Stage 5: Add Bright Blue Dots.

... notice the hand. hehehe

Stage 6: Add the words, "Seattle Works" at the bottom (still in progress).

Do Work!

So I started my job on Monday. Glory. I'm working for a non-profit called Seattle Works. It is their goal to get younger adults more engaged in their communities by providing them with a variety of resources whether it be events or volunteer opportunities. So far it pretty much feels like a job, but tomorrow I get to paint a mural on their wall which is AWESOME.

Me & Chelsea got to explore Pioneer Square yesterday. It's the older historic part of Seattle by the water, but it's really cool and trendy. We went to this taco place called Taco del Mar and it was delicious, but we got the feeling that it was a dude's place because we were the only females in the place. Whatevs. Another strange thing I saw was that on their menu, they listed the calories of each item on the menu. The Taco Salad was 850-1050 calories--more than anything else on the menu! WTF.

After we ate, we went to this massive bookstore called the Elliott Bay Bookstore and as I have told Liz, "When I go into Barnes & Noble (or any bookstore for that matter) I make the Sign of the Cross. It's like my Mecca." Conflicting ideologies, I know, but you get the point. So I was in there for quite a bit of time and I got the book, "Life of Pi" because I have been meaning to read it. I have also been reading the books that the show True Blood is based on as well as "Pride & Prejudice & Zombies." :)

That day we also saw the cutest thing that I have ever seen. We came upon a lady walking her dogs, but they just weren't any dogs. She had two teacup chihuahuas dressed up like princesses and this bigger chihuahua that was dressed up like a gangsta. He was wearing dreadlocks and sunglasses. LOLZZZZ. I almost started sobbing because I couldn't internalize how cute I thought they were. hahahaha. I wish I would've gotten a picture :-/

On Monday, our boss took us out to lunch at a Japanese place called Boom Noodle in Capitol Hill (a trendy hipster Seattle Community). It was amazing. I particularly liked the ahi tuna tacos. I know that sounds kind of gross, but if you don't mind raw fish (which i love) then it was beyond words. Afterwards, me & Chels went exploring around in the nearby blocks and we found this awesome vintage store called "Atlas Clothing" and I really wanna go back there.

Another new development is that I have found my Medina (aka another important Islam sight). I don't know if any of y'all know what Pinkberry is, but it is a frozen yogurt place and the frozen yogurt is actually yogurt flavored. They also provide you with an assortment of fruit toppings and other nifty things. Weeeeellllll, I found a place called Red Mango and it is the original FRO-YO place that Pinkberry was copied from, and the awesome thing is that it's like a 10 min. walk from my dorm!!! I'm going to have to start making the Sign of the Cross when I go there.

So I think that's all I have to say for now. I love how I talked about food in basically every paragraph, but it's true--Seattle has great food. There is a lot of asian food, which is fine by me because I lovvvesss it (not really Chinese though-ughhh). I'm more of a Japanese/Korean/Thai/Mongolian girl.

I will have more pics later!!! Keep on the lookout.

Today I am leaving a website link instead of a quote...

Me = Christopher Columbus.

So today was exploration day. We all went to find our work places and then we went to the downtown area and met at the ORIGINAL STARBUCKS. whoot. I had macaroni at this diner and it was terrible--probably because my standards of good mac & cheese is based on Easy Mac.

To sum up today's experience...
I saw two very interesting things:
1. A drunken lady on the bus who I presumed to be also on drugs because only alcohol could not account for her insanity.
2. Men wearing kilts who weren't nearly as Scottish as I had hoped them to be--meaning there was an actual store selling kilts as fashionable attire. It was possibly the creepiest thing I've ever seen.

Also, we all went on a tour of Seattle's Underground. There were kids on the tour so whenever the tour guide referred to prostitution she would use the metaphor, "sewing." She called prostitutes, "seamstresses," and crossdressers were involved in "cross-stitching." LMAO.

We also found out that the guy who invented the toilets that were used in Seattle in the 1800s were called CRAPPERS because they were named after the genius behind the contraptions whose last name was... wait for it... CRAPPERS. Haaaaa

So I'm going to leave you with a text message convo between me & Liz that we submitted to textsfromlastnight.com

Liz (referring to the movie Slumdog Millionaire): The whole movie I was gushing.
Me: Tears? or Jizz?

kbye.

I'm here!

So I'm finally in Seattle. I don't know what my first impression of the city is yet, but there seems to be an abundance of strange looking people. I have seen lots of crazy hair. More on that in later posts...

So I'm at the U of Washington and from the outside the dorm I'm living in looks great. The inside... not so much. It is safe to say that our dorm is bringing back grunge.

(920): Vanillla milkshakes are the new Gold Bond. Will explain later.

SHOUT OUTS:
**Hillary Hutto, you better be reading my blog or I will eat you and your chicken nugget toes.
**Chris Manno, when I'm around you I am proud to say that I'm an "I love you" slut.

kbye.

I should be packing...

Here's what I kinda know about Seattle:

- Coffee is big.
- The suicide rate is big.
- It's rainy basically all the time except summer.
- Isn't it where grunge originated? I dunno.
- Ted Bundy Territory. AHHHHHHH!!!!! creep sauce.
- It's colder than it is in Monroe (Today the high in Monroe is 98 degrees. Yum.)
- It's where Grey's Anatomy is set.
- It's 3.5 hours from Forks (the rainiest city in the US and where Twilight is set). I know this because I googled the directions and because I'm cool. Pilgrimage in the works people.
- I also found out through my adventures in Google Directions that La Push is like an hour from Forks. PSHHHH is Bella nuts? I don't care how hot some werewolf is, I ain't driving an hour everyday to go see him when I have a SEXAH vampire on my arm. Let's be realistic here Stephenie Meyer.

big booty love. kbye.

(509): I just shaved my legs while pooping. classy or trashy?
(1-509): talent.
